Introduced by Antoine Crozy of Crozy et fil, Lyon, France in 1888, Canna 'Aurora Borealis' is a medium sized cultivar; mid green foliage, ovoid shaped, acute apex, branching habit; clusters of flowers are open, yellow with red stripes, throat red, staminodes are medium size, edges ruffled, stamen is red, style is red, petals yellow, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, flowers in early summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules round; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured white and pink; tillering is average.
