Introduced by Antoine Wintzer of The Conard & Jones Co., West Grove, Pennsylvania, USA in 1905, Canna 'Indiana' is a tall Italian Group cultivar; green foliage, large, oblong shaped, spreading habit; oval main stems, coloured green; triangular flower stalks, coloured green; flowers are self-coloured orange, edges lightly frilled, petals purple, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, flowers in summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; seed is sterile, pollen is low fertile; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured white and pink; tillering is average.
Canna 'Indiana' is available from specialist growers.
Canna Indiana was documented as being in the Alipore Canna Collection when it was taken to Africa by Sydney Percy-Lancaster on his retirement.
The Conard & Jones Catalogue of 1915 describes it as "glistening golden orange".
