Ludlow Castle, overlooking several Michelin Star restaurants.

Ludlow is a small market town in Shropshire, England, close to the Welsh border. It is situated in a bend of the River Teme, on the east bank. A central hill supports Ludlow Castle and the market square. The streets of the medieval town slope down to the river.

Ludlow Castle is a ruined castle and fortress, overlooking the Teme Valley, and was a strategic medieval stronghold for the control of the Welsh Marches, and also intermittently the seat of the English governor of Wales.

The castle was probably built on the orders of Walter de Lacy in the late 11th century. In the very early 14th century, the castle was enlarged to become the palace of Roger Mortimer, 1st Earl of March, then the most powerful lord in England.
