Introduced by Thor Dalebø of Normandy, France in 2006, Canna 'May Vince' is a medium sized cultivar; green foliage, long oval shaped, acute apex, white margin, branching habit; oval main stems, coloured green; triangular flower stalks, coloured green; spikes of flowers are open, coral-pink with a wide canary-yellow margin, staminodes are medium size, edges irregular, labellum is sulphur-yellow streaked with coral-pink, style is gold, petals red, fully self-cleaning, outstanding bloomer, flowers in early summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured white and pink; tillering is average.
Canna 'May Vince' is available from specialist growers; breeding is Canna 'Mandy Robinson' x C. 'Hallow'. The cultivar was named for May Vince, a lady of great personality and for many years the captain of the English Ladies Angling Team. I am proud to have known her.
