Introduced by Marcelle Sheppard Nursery, Texas, USA, Canna 'Zulu Masquerade' is a medium sized cultivar; dark foliage, oval shaped, acute apex, maroon margin, arching habit; oval main stems, coloured purple + farina; triangular flower stalks, coloured purple + farina; flowers are open, scarlet with a gold margin, staminodes are large, edges lightly frilled, petals purple with farina, fully self-cleaning, average bloomer, flowers in late summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; seed is sterile, pollen is low fertile; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is average.
A member of the Zulu Series, Canna 'Zulu Masquerade' is available from specialist growers; breeding is C. 'Cleopatra' mutation.
