Canna 'Coq d'Or' is a medium sized cultivar; mid green foliage, oval shaped, acute apex, branching habit; oval main stems, coloured green; triangular flower stalks, coloured green; clusters of flowers are open, saffron-yellow with ruby red spots, staminodes are medium size, edges irregular, petals green, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, flowers in early summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured white and purple; tillering is good.

Canna 'Coq d'Or' is available from specialist growers. The name 'Coq d'Or' translates as 'The Golden Rooster', so it is obvious that twenty-odd years ago we were all mistaken in thinking that it was a pale pink with pale purple spots.

Bonnie We have it as Coq d'Or (illustrated), Dondo, Confetti, Pink Champagne. The reason why I think there are so many names is partly renaming of an existing variety, but also breeders thinking they have something new when they haven't. Does anyone know the oldest name for this variety? Keith Hayward Farnborough, England www.hartcanna.com Alice Harris wrote: We have 3 of them. 'Snow Candy', 'Sugar Candy', and 'White Speckles'. There is also 'Confetti' and 'Dondo' (near whites) ..and some others. 'Tropical White' (if you look close) has pale light pink speckles. Hope this helps..
